Hunting season is finally winding down. If you’re like me, you have a husband or significant other who is literally hunting something every weekend and on his days off.Β I’m not a fan of hunting, the only time I ever went was the first and the last. My dad always wanted me to get into the sport, begging me to take a hunter safety class. I never budged. I did agree to go on one duck hunt – I can’t remember my age. But I do remember how miserable I was – cold, annoyed, and ready to go home from the start. I know we didn’t come home with anything – and the sound of the gun going off made me scream and nearly jump out of my skin. After that my dad never asked me to go again. π
When I first met Tanner – he occasionally went on hunts with his dad and step-dad. Mostly bird hunting – and he didn’t seem too interested. I was happy I had found someone who wasn’t obsessed with the sport. We could actually make fun plans during the fall like other non-hunters! Well, this quickly changed over the years – and our storage space in our basement now looks like a mini-Scheels hunting section. Everything lined up perfectly…
I’m not complaining – I think it’s awesome that he has a hobby that he loves. It’s a great way to get out and get some fresh air – plus it’s a ton of exercise! A lot of his friends hunt as well. While my friends and I plan dinner dates and attend fun social events going on in the FM area – Tanner and his buddies plan hunting dates. π Β This girl will use my “hunting” skills to finding a bargain online. With Tanner gone hunting- it gives me the house all to myself while I’m working away on Lindsay Arneson Creative projects! Sometimes it’s nice to just peace and quiet while I work away on editing photos or a new design project, or other important things -like taking a nap on a Sunday afternoon with my Jack Russel terriers!
Another thing I love about hunting season -is COOKING! I love taking the time to make a home-cooked meal. We recently went back to my hometown for a fun weekend of hunting. Well, hunting for the boys – cooking, relaxing and drinking wine for my mom and I. I love entertaining, whether it’s hosting a fun cocktail party or dinner for friends. While the guys are out hunting, I love taking the time to make a delicious meal. And who doesn’t love the praise one gets when everyone gets home and enjoys whatever I whipped up in the kitchen. π
Here are some photos from my recent visit back to McVille…
Below is Griffin, one of my Jack Russels. He’s constantly by my side. As I type this, he is laying on top of the desk in his little dog bed. Β π He’s such a sweetie, and the best little snuggle bug at nap time! π
A fall photo of the tree outside the auditorium (where we took some photos of Mya!). This fall flew by – and I never got a chance to go out and take photos of the fall trees and leaves! So I made sure I got one of this tree…one of the few left with any leaves!
That Saturday I whipped up some spaghetti with meatballs. I LOVE this recipe! It’s a collaboration of recipes: my mom’s spaghetti recipe, and Tanner’s mom and step-mom’s recipes. With a few touches of my own! π
Yummm…..
Last night we had a few friends over for “Friendsgiving”. An idea stolen from another friend of mine – but it’s basically Thanksgiving dinner – with friends!! We’ve done this in the past as well. It’s such a fun and relaxing night. And what a great reason to get everyone together! Tanner and I took care of the turkey and a few sides, and everyone brought something to share. I’ll blog about our fun night soon!!
